ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN

Untitled-3.png

One By One: HIV Digital Advocacy for Youth in Africa Campaign aims to combat stigma and misinformation around HIV status while spreading positive, educational messages around access to HIV testing, prevention and treatment among African youth. We believe that it is important to empower new generations of youth to play leadership roles in shaping new social norms around gender, sexuality, identity and consent.

The Campaign recognizes that addressing HIV is a fundamental precondition to achieving UHC in Africa. HIV-positive African youth often face stigma and discrimination based on their health status.  We believe that peer-to-peer HIV education is a crucial tool to build solidarity, combat stigma and increase awareness about critical testing and treatment options. Improving knowledge of the disease and how to seek diagnosis and care among HIV patients as well as potential patients will help young people feel empowered and bring Africa one step closer to an HIV Free Generation.

ACTIVITIES

Workshops

In partnership with Kigali Hope Organization and Clouds Media, we are hosting workshops for HIV+ youth focused on educating them about sexual and reproductive health and empowering them to use their digital voices to combat stigma and shame around HIV by becoming #HIVYouthChampions.

In addition, trainings will be held with school headmasters, teachers and parents that will help each stakeholder understand stigma and discrimination around HIV and how to participate in youth's support systems.

Crowdsourcing

We are seeking out competitive proposals from qualified youth groups to provide creative digital community-level
engagement ideas around HIV education, awareness and prevention for African youth.

The Campaign will select 4 applicants who will receive funding support to develop and implement their innovative ideas.

High-level AU Event

We will host a virtual event on HIV and youth which will bring together the youth-led partners as well as representatives from the public and private sector to discuss HIV education, prevention, support and stigma, together with a call to action.

Following this event, a report will be published based on the conversations and findings that occur during the virtual meeting.
